The largest US cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has launched XRP futures contracts through its derivatives trading platform. On April 21, Coinbase announced via its official X (formerly Twitter) that XRP futures products will be traded under the supervision of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Coinbase explained that this new product provides an opportunity to gain capital-efficient investment exposure in a regulated environment for "one of the most liquid digital assets". Currently listed XRP futures contracts are divided into retail and institutional investor categories. General contracts are based on 10,000 XRP, while 'nano' contracts targeting small investors are structured in units of 500 XRP. As of April 21, this is approximately $1,000 (about 1.46 million won).
This XRP futures product is the most recent listing on the Coinbase derivatives exchange, following the addition of Solana (SOL) and Hedera (HBAR) futures contracts in February. Coinbase is accelerating its derivatives segment by lowering market entry barriers for both institutional and retail investors through futures products supervised by US regulatory authorities.
As XRP has long been at the center of US regulatory issues, this product launch is interpreted as Coinbase and CFTC exploring new market opportunities based on legal clarity for XRP. The industry expects this futures contract listing could be a turning point in increasing XRP's liquidity and potential integration into the mainstream market.
