Instead of taking a breath and re-thinking this, US authorities look to be doubling down.
This resolution would criminalize anyone protesting for the Palestinian population and against its starvation when saying 'free Palestine'. Notice there is nothing antisemitic in that at all [antisemitism is hostility against adherents to a religion - the Jewish faith].

The House is preparing to vote next week on a resolution that would deem “Free Palestine” to be “an antisemitic slogan.”
If anybody votes against this, they’ll say they voted to support the Colorado terrorist attack.

It would only be another small step from criminalizing the slogan 'free Palestine' to criminalizing the waving of a Palestinian flag. Do people not see the level of crazy this is?

What would you say to him?

Why do many not see the level of crazy this is? Because they have confused or conflated politics with religion. Where religion is rightfully related to dogma, this has morphed into the political sphere... where dogma has no right to be whatsoever. This creates the fanaticism.
From the humanist/ humanitarian perspective that is concerned with universal law, all forms of fanaticism is the enemy. This is why the current US administration is now attacking the ICC [International Court of Justice].
