On the morning of June 22 Vietnam time, US President Donald Trump unexpectedly announced that the US military conducted an airstrike targeting three strategic nuclear facilities in Iran, including locations in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The message was posted on the social media platform Truth Social, where Trump affirmed that the operation was "successfully completed".
According to Trump, US bombers carried out the attack with high-explosive weapons and quickly and safely withdrew from Iranian airspace. Among the three targets, the Fordow facility was emphasized as the focal point of this airstrike.
He emphasized: "We have completed an extremely precise military operation. All aircraft returned safely. This is the achievement of brave American soldiers. The world needs to understand that now is the time to move towards peace."
The US President said he would deliver an official speech from the White House at 10 PM Eastern Time on June 21 (9 AM on June 22 Vietnam time) to provide more information about the operation. In his previous message, he also affirmed that this is a crucial turning point for the United States, Israel, and the international community, and called on Iran to stop escalating the conflict.
As of now, the Iranian government has not issued any response statement. It is also unclear whether Israeli forces played a role in the attack.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that residents in Qom city – near the Fordow nuclear plant – heard loud explosions in the early morning. Some air defense systems in the area were reportedly activated before the explosion. Fordow is a nuclear facility built inside a mountain and located in a strategic position south of the capital Tehran.
An unnamed US official revealed to Reuters that the B-2 stealth bombers – the most advanced aircraft in the US Air Force – directly participated in the attack on Iran's nuclear facilities. This is an aircraft capable of long-distance flight, carrying precisely guided weapons, and typically used in highly secretive, high-deterrence missions.
This development occurs against a backdrop of escalating tensions between the US and Iran surrounding Tehran's nuclear program. Many international experts warn that this event could trigger further military confrontations in the Middle East in the coming period and raise international concerns about the risk of conflict expanding beyond the region.
