Bitcoin Whale Unexpectedly Transfers 10,603 BTC After Nearly 4 Years of "Hibernation", Valued at Over $1.26 Billion
A long-time Bitcoin whale has recently caused a stir in the cryptocurrency community by unexpectedly transferring a large amount of assets after years of inactivity. According to the on-chain analysis platform Lookonchain, citing data from Arkham Intelligence, three Bitcoin wallets seemingly owned by the same individual or organization simultaneously transferred a total of 10,603 BTC – valued at approximately $1.26 billion – on Tuesday night (US time).
Specifically, all three wallet addresses received Bitcoin on December 13, 2020, when BTC was trading around $18,000. Each wallet received approximately 3,000 to 4,000 BTC at that time. Since then, two of the three wallets have had absolutely no transactions, while the third wallet performed two small transactions totaling 7 BTC three years ago.
However, late Tuesday night, all three addresses simultaneously transferred their entire BTC holdings to three new unidentified wallets. The new receiving wallets have not yet made any additional transactions, causing the community to closely monitor any further movements.
Although it cannot be confirmed whether the three addresses belong to the same person or organization, data from Arkham shows that all three wallets previously interacted with a common address starting with the identifier "1CMbV...mMUZL".
Notably, this movement occurred just a few weeks after another Bitcoin whale from the "Satoshi era" (early period of Bitcoin) transferred over 80,000 BTC valued at nearly $9.5 billion – after more than 13 years of inactivity since April 2011. These BTC were subsequently transferred to Galaxy Digital, sparking speculation that the whale was preparing to sell through the company's OTC trading service.
These notable movements from whales are occurring as Bitcoin continues to maintain a strong upward trend in recent weeks. Earlier this month, BTC briefly surpassed $123,000 – its highest level in history – and continues to hover around this high price range.
